An Islamic religious movement founded in 1899 in India by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (c.1839-1908), believed to be the Messiah Mahdi. Rejected by orthodox Islam, the sect is marked by its missionary zeal. It is active in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
